Oh my god...

Oh my good god...

Earth-shattering news.

Yes...

Hogshead Publishing is closing down. They're not bankrupt, but they've just decided to pack up and go home. The thing is, they've just gone and handed the rights of Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay back to Games Workshop.

Now, I can see Games Workshop doing one of four things with this:

1) Rewrite it completely, including the old-style background, and release it to match their current mythos for the Warhammer World. This is not a good thing, since several aspects of the current Warhammer World (as opposed to how it was 15 years ago, when WFRP was released) are vastly inferior to the WFRP version.

2) Let the game die an undignified death in the pit of despair known as their dustbin.

3) Hand it over to the Specialist Games Range for them to make available again, albeit at lower production cost and with limited availability.

4) Resell the licence to another company.

The fourth one's the best option, but if the company turns out to be crap in comparison to Hogshead, WFRP could go down the chute.

If GW decides to keep it and give it to the Specialist Games Range, we can only hope that Jervis Johnson (the guy in charge of the SGR), being a veteran GW-er and roleplayer, takes WFRP under his wing and makes sure it's treated properly.
